On Friday, pupils in L1 were visited by firefighters from Blackness Road Fire Station, who dropped in to talk about their jobs and give the inquisitive youngsters the chance to climb onboard their fire engine.

After examining the vehicle’s various features and tools, the children even had the chance to have a go at using its most exciting piece of equipment – the hose!

Before leaving, the firefighters took the chance to remind the pupils about the importance of fire safety and what to do in an emergency at home or in school.

The visit was part of the L1 classroom topic, ‘People who help us’, which has seen the children learn about the work of the fire service.
