Where is the Library?
The Library is in Trinity Meadowside, below the Trinity Hall.

When is the Library open?
The library is open from 8.30am until 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Senior School pupils can use the Library before or after school and at break times during the day.

What can pupils borrow?
There are over 30,000 items to choose from. Everything is on the Library Catalogue, which can be accessed online. The stock in the library supports the curriculum as well as offering a wide range of resources to encourage reading for pleasure.
Senior School pupils may borrow four items for two weeks and are encouraged to renew these items if they are still reading them after the two-week loan period. Form 6 pupils may borrow six items for two weeks.
Reminder notices are sent to pupils via registration once the item is overdue. Pupils will receive two reminder notices in school before a letter is sent home to parents. A replacement cost is charged for lost or damaged items.
Pupils can borrow or return items any time the Library is open.
The library also subscribes to a wide range of periodicals which support subjects taught within the school. These can be borrowed; the library also receives daily newspapers, both local and national.

Careers Library
The Careers Library provides pupils with information on course and career options. Popular resources include UCAS guides, university prospectuses and career information handbooks. Throughout the course of the year pupils are introduced to the different areas of the careers library and are given time to browse through the selection of resources.

IT Facilities
Eighteen networked computers are in the IT Resource Centre in the Library. Pupils may use these for school work only.

Study Facilities
The Library is the perfect place for pupils wishing to study. Twenty-four study desk spaces are available for independent or group study with a further space for meetings or group work. Our layout ensures that supervision encourages pupils’ productivity without distraction.

Project & Research Help
The librarian is always available to help pupils with all aspects of research, from locating relevant books and websites to providing detailed guidance on writing bibliographies.

Book Clubs
There are a number of reading related clubs offered in the Library. For Junior pupils, Café Culture Club, a club which promotes newspapers, is offered as well as a book club for enthusiastic readers in L7. The Senior School pupils enjoy a range of book groups which reflect their needs, newspaper clubs, traditional book groups and a less traditional ‘papercraft’ club which utilises the beauty of book pages when the cover is beyond repair. We also hold ‘film of the book’ evenings to promote discussion regarding the merits of different mediums.

Special Events
Throughout the year there are special library events including:

  • Harry Potter Week
  • Seasonal competitions & activities such as flash fiction contests, World Book Day celebrations and in partnership with the Home Economics Department, a design and make a sweetie competition for Willie Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.
  • Trips to local bookshops and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
  • Author visits, via Skype and in person.

We are always available to help pupils. Please ask!
