Retiring staff 2022

At the end of the summer term 2022, it wasn’t just our F6 cohort that we said goodbye to: we also wished a fond farewell to our retiring staff members.

The High School of Dundee

After a combined total of an amazing 72 years of service to HSD, Irene McGrath and Colin McAdam are hanging up their teaching hats, with Colin having stepped down at the end of April, and Irene’s last day having been at the end of the summer term. On account of their length of service, we have paid further tribute to Irene here and to Colin here

In Science, Physics teacher Dr George MacKay is retiring after 22 years of enlightening our pupils about the laws of matter and energy, while Senior Science Technician Isobel Pimbley is also stepping down after many years keeping our laboratories in pristine working order.

Our Head of RMPS, Ashley Cummins, retired at the end of the Spring term, after dedicating himself for many years to teaching our pupils all about religious beliefs, moral, and philosophical and ethical issues.

Our Domestic Supervisor Doris Morrison – a familiar and welcome face to all staff in her role leading the School’s cleaning teams, not to mention countless hours volunteered as a seamstress for our Junior Years productions, will shortly retire, after 21 years of service.

And although not retiring, we must highlight the contribution of History and Modern Studies teacher Gordon Rennet, who is heading for pastures new after a total of more than 30 years of dedicated service to HSD!

A massive thank you to all of our retiring staff for all your hard work, endeavour and commitment over many years. We wish you all long and happy retirements and we hope that you’ll stay in touch with us and the wider HSD community!
