Colin McAdam

It won’t just be members of the School’s CCF that will want to give a fond salute to Colin McAdam as he begins his retirement.

Colin McAdam

Colin joined the School in 1992 as a Geography teacher, after serving in the armed forces, and immediately stamped his unique approach of military order alongside ‘peace and love’.

It was this approach that made him an obvious choice to be part of the original HSD guidance team, being appointed PT Guidance in 1999.

As a passionate rugby player, Colin was also delighted to be able to help with coaching of HSD teams.

But of course, Mr McAdam has had another important and prominent role at HSD; leading the School’s Combined Cadet Force for 28 years!

Having taken over command from Major Graeme Spowart back in August 1994, LT Col McAdam instructed thousands of HSD cadets, helping them to develop leadership skills, responsibility, self-reliance, self-confidence, resourcefulness, endurance, perseverance, teamwork and more!

His passion for the CCF was obvious for all to see as he led the youngsters through weekly drills on a Friday, through residential camps, through the annual Armistice parade and through the many other activities that the cadets were engaged in.

A man who has made an indelible impact on the lives and careers of countless High School pupils and his colleagues! We thank Colin for his 30 years of dedicated service to the High School and we wish him a long and happy retirement!
