HSD Pipe Band competes in World Championships

In what was the School’s debut appearance at the event, and only the third-ever major championship the Pipe Band had competed in, the HSD pipers finished 8th out of 21 bands in the Novice Juvenile B category at Glasgow Green.

With a pupil - Pipe Major Robbie Coupar - leading, the youngsters excelled as they went up against groups from all over Scotland, as well as from the United States and Canada.

The School’s Director of Music, Dr Lionel Steuart Fothringham, said, “This is a superb achievement by the pupils to crown a very successful season. For many of them this was their first season competing.

“My congratulations go to the pupils for their well-deserved reward for their hard work throughout the year, and to Mr Wilton and Mr Graham for their expert care and guidance.”

More than 30,000 people attended the championships over two days, with around 8,000 pipers and drummers, from 195 bands from all over the world, performing.
