A High School of Dundee pupil is celebrating a title-winning performance at the Glenisla Gathering Highland Games.

High School of Dundee Pupil Wins Glenisla Highland Games Event

In the 150th staging of the Games, James Ramsey picked up the Jock Davidson memorial trophy after winning the 18 and under Junior Heavy contest.

A great day was topped off with a surprise appearance from HRH Prince Charles, who James had the opportunity to talk to shortly after being presented with the title.

James has been training and competing in junior heavy events right across Scotland for the last three to four years. The contest at Glenisla consisted of tossing the caber, throwing the weight for distance, throwing the hammer, and throwing the weight over the bar, and James’s victory followed on from another U18 win earlier this season at Nairn. Pretty impressive results for a 15-year-old!

James is trained by Pete Hart, a local heavy event competitor and parent of HSD pupils Bryon (L7) and Rowan (L7), who also competed and performed well in the U18 event at Glenisla.
