Curlers win inter-schools title

A High School of Dundee curling team is celebrating a fantastic victory!

High School of Dundee curlers have won the Hay Trophy

The squad of Calum Skea (skip), Ben Watson (lead), Donald Robertson (second), Keir Chalmers (third), and Lukas Mearns, were crowned the winners of the recent Hay Trophy competition in Perth.

Lining up against school teams from across Tayside, the boys - who usually compete against each other at a national level in four different U14 teams – combined to impressive effect, securing wins in all five of their games to seal the title.

The Hay Trophy has been competed for annually by school teams since being presented by Chuck Hay – who was a world champion curler in the 1960s - in 1975. It has been held aloft by a number of young curlers who have gone on to win Olympic and World Championship medals, including David Murdoch, Michael Goodfellow and Eve Muirhead, so the boys are following in some illustrious footsteps!

Next up for the team is the Scottish Schools Curling Championships in Ayr in March.
