Margaret was born in Dundee in 1935, the younger sister of Kathleen and Graeme. Following in her sister’s footsteps, she attended the High School from 1940 until 1953. She always remembered her time there with great fondness. Margaret made many friends during her time at school, in particular, Ismay Scrimgeour (née Ogilvy). Their friendship stood the test of time and lasted her a lifetime.
After leaving school, Margaret trained as a Secretary and went on to work for the Director of Education, Dundee Corporation. This ignited her love of travel as she went to so many different countries, including Russia, on the School Cruises. Margaret eventually left her job in 1966 when she married Ian Ross and they relocated to St Andrews.
They went on to have two daughters, Alison and Sally-Anne. In 1991, Sally-Anne moved to Australia where she is now married with two boys, Angus and Archie.
When her daughters started school, Margaret went to work for Dunfermline Building Society until she retired in 1995. However, retirement just wasn’t for her and so she went to work for a solicitors and showed people round their prospective homes instead.
Margaret’s love of travel took her all over the world, including many trips to Australia. Even in her 80s, she went on a cruise for her and Ian’s Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Family and friendships were Margaret’s life. Better know as Maggie, she will always be lovingly remembered for her heart-warming smile and welcoming embrace. She was truly loved by all who knew her.
Margaret kept smiling until the end, passing away peacefully on 27th March 2019, aged 84. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ian, her two daughters and two grandsons.
