A trio of pupils from the High School of Dundee have scooped an amazing prize after winning a product development challenge – their very own ice-cream flavour has been made by Jannettas!
In their Enterprise lessons, F1 pupils have been taking part in the Business Education department’s annual HSD x Jannettas flavour creation contest.
Giving the pupils the chance to devise new and exciting ice cream flavours for the business, while keeping in mind key considerations such as marketing, food trends and provenance, it’s a challenge the year-group always look forward to getting their teeth into!
Members of the Jannettas family visited the High School of Dundee to talk to the pupils, who were working in teams of three, about the key criteria of flavour creation, and then to judge an amazing array of homemade gelato created by the pupils, along with their insightful presentations.
Some fantastic variations were shortlisted for the final judging, including Baked Apple and Cinnamon, Coffee and Shortbread, and Raspberry and Rhubarb Crumble. But coming out on top was Ruben, Marko, and Sufyan’s delicious concoction of Figs and Cream!
Jannettas then set to work producing the winning flavour, which proved a big hit when all of the finalists were given the chance to taste it. Ruben, Marko and Sufyan were also able to take some home, for a memento that may not have lasted too long!

Lewis Hazel from Jannettas, said, “A massive congratulations to all those involved, it was truly a fantastic experience to meet and converse with the business students and teachers at the School.
“The winning students demonstrated excellent enthusiasm and creativity, putting great effort into combining the flavours of Italy and Scotland.”
Head of Business Education Neil Higgins, said, “The product development challenge with Jannettas is the pinnacle of the S1 Enterprise Course where we use Enterprise and Entrepreneurship to develop skills for learning, life, and work such as presenting, teamwork and leadership.
“During the course, pupils learn about what makes a great presentation, branding, business pitching and business ethics. The course is incredibly popular with our pupils and parents alike as it ensures our pupils have the knowledge, skills and attitudes to allow them to flourish and reach their full potential.”
