A multitude of musical opportunities

Try a musical instrument day

Today our L2-7 children had the chance to explore a multitude of musical opportunities in a special Musical Instrument Try-out Day!

The event provided the pupils with the perfect opportunity to have a look around the Music Department, and find out why it’s fantastic to be a musician!

Did you know?:

  • At HSD pupils can learn instruments of their own choice ranging from piano, voice, guitars and bagpipes to pipe-band drumming, all orchestral instruments, clàrsach and more!
  • All pupils from Nursery to S2 receive 1 music class per week from a specialist music teacher
  • Around 400 individual music lessons take place every week, integrated with a full co-curricular programme of 29 choirs and ensembles rehearsing weekly
  • The School has a Director of Music (who is also a class teacher), 1 additional class music teacher, 7 full-time permanent music instructors, 2 part-time permanent music instructors, and 7 visiting music instructors
  • There are a huge range of performance opportunities! Orchestras and wind bands, string ensembles, a jazz band, and ensembles for guitars, clàrsachs, various chamber groupings, and rock bands!
  • 85 concerts/music events each year with performances in school, in the Caird Hall, St Paul’s Cathedral and locations across Dundee and the whole of Scotland!

We hope the visit will inspire our next generation of budding music makers!
