Budding musical maestros took to the stage to provide some stirring entertainment in the HSD Senior Years Music competition!

A huge range of styles could be heard as pupils from F1 to F6 treated watching family members and staff to brilliant performances on instruments ranging from piano, classical guitar and violin, to alto saxophone, electric and bass guitar and voice, plus many more!

Thank you to Graeme Wilson, Secretary of the Scottish Association for Music Education, who adjudicated on the first day of the two-day event.

The F5 and F6 winners of the Open Classes in the HSD Senior Years Music Competition went on to compete for the coveted Premier Quaich.

This year’s winner was Nathan Ogston F5, who gave a fantastic rendition of ‘Stars’ from ‘Les Misérables’, ‘Vaga luna che inargenti’ by Vincenzo Bellini, and ‘The Impossible Dream’ from ‘Man of La Mancha’.

After a highly detailed analysis, adjudicator Ingrid Sawers (piano coach at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and an ABRSM music examiner) decided to award a Highly Commended award to Daniel Higgins, F6.

The School’s Director of Music, Lionel Steuart-Fothringham, said, “The quality and variety of music-making for this year’s Premier Quaich was very high, and our visiting adjudicator had a tough task making her decision. Congratulations to all pupils who took part, and to their instructors who have taught them the skills needed to play so well.”

Congratulations to our winner, runners-up, and all who took part for their hard work and achievements!
