The High School of Dundee has today announced that Lise Hudson is to retire as Rector at the end of Session 2025–26. She will step down upon turning 60 in June 2026, bringing to a close an exceptional 36-year career at HSD.
Mrs Hudson has served the School with distinction in numerous roles—History Teacher, Principal Teacher of Guidance, Deputy Head Pastoral, Deputy Rector, and since January 2020, as Rector.
Throughout, she has championed emotional intelligence, pastoral care, and a nurturing culture where pupils are empowered to find their strengths, pursue their goals, and build their futures.
Announcing her decision, Mrs Hudson said: “In June 2026, I will turn 60 and will have completed six years as Rector. It feels like the right time to make space for new leadership and to begin a new chapter in my own life.
“Since joining the High School in 1990, it has been the greatest privilege to dedicate my entire professional life to this extraordinary place. HSD is not just a school — it is a family, and the bonds I’ve formed here with pupils, staff, parents, and the wider community are ones I will carry with me always. My love for the School runs deep, and while I may be stepping away from my role, the connection I feel to this community is lifelong.
“I remain wholeheartedly committed to leading the School with energy, care, and passion in the year ahead.”
Chair of the High School of Dundee Board of Directors, David Thomson, said: “Lise’s commitment to excellence has enriched the pupil experience—blending academic achievement with a vibrant co-curriculum and dedicated pastoral support. Under her leadership, the School has blossomed as a community.
“She has advocated tirelessly for our young people, celebrating individual and collective success while cultivating a culture where challenges are embraced as part of growth. She counts projects like the creation of our new social spaces, the development of the playground, and the creation of a dedicated PCS team as highlights which will provide lasting contributions to HSD’s future.
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Lise for her dedication and commitment to HSD. There will be many opportunities in the coming year to celebrate Lise’s remarkable contribution to the High School and in the meantime the search for her successor is already underway.”
