We were delighted to welcome the Black Watch Museum to HSD, giving our pupils a unique opportunity to engage with history beyond the classroom.
Our F4 History pupils, studying for National 5, had the chance to handle original First World War artefacts and work directly with local historians and representatives connected with the Black Watch and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Through discussion, practical activities and original sources, they explored the experiences of the Black Watch Regiment during WW1.
In the afternoon, our F2 pupils took part in two sessions exploring WW1, and the issues surrounding remembrance and war graves. They heard about some of the School’s former pupils who served with the Black Watch during WW1, creating a particularly meaningful local connection to their learning.
Visits like this provide pupils with access to specialist knowledge, original resources and personal stories that help bring the past to life. We are grateful to everyone who shared their time and expertise with our pupils and helped make it such a valuable day of learning.
