Roman soldier marches into classroom for a History lesson

A Roam soldier standing in front of class talking about Ancient Rome

Our L4 (P4) pupils enjoyed an unforgettable lesson when a Roman soldier marched straight into their classroom!

The fully armoured legionnaire — in reality, retired Head of Classics Edmund Faulkes – arrived to support the pupils’ project on Ancient Rome.

Armed with a shield and sword, the Antonine Guard (Roman re-enactment group) member, certainly looked ready for battle, but his mission was far more peaceful. He spent the session answering a barrage of enthusiastic questions about life in the Roman Empire, offering pupils an exciting opportunity to explore how Roman society compares with the world they know today.

The visit brought history vividly to life and left our Junior Years buzzing with new knowledge and excitement.
