Our playground is an iconic feature of our school. Generations of HSD pupils have grown up playing and socialising in this distinctive space, with the wonderful vista down Reform Street to the Caird Hall connecting HSD to the heart of the city centre.
An inspiration for the creation of the Bash Street Kids, a gathering place for our annual Remembrance Parade and the City’s Torchlight procession…
Our playground has always been a special place, but we want to make it even better.
Our Playground Project is an exciting initiative to transform the space.
Our goal has been to maintain the character of the HSD playground which many remember so fondly, whilst enhancing it to make it a more vibrant and functional space for current pupils, future pupils and the HSD community. A safer, greener, more inclusive environment for fun and learning.
We have transformed the western side of the playground to feature a range of play equipment, social seating and soft surfacing. It’s been areal treat to watch the children making the most of the new facilities!
And a beech hedge is to be planted, forming a living, leafy border around our playground – offering greenery, shelter and biodiversity and enhancing air quality.
This project means a great deal to the School. It’s about creating a space that reflects our values – of care, curiosity, and community. And it would not have been possible without the generosity of those who donated to our playground fundraising efforts.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the campaign, with special thanks to: The HSD Trust Appeal Fund; The HSD Foundation, and Chair Mrs Sheena Leadbitter; The Old Boys’ Club,; The Old Girls’ Club, the HSD Parents’ Association.
