Rugby 1st XV deliver powerful message on men’s health

Rugby 1st XV members lifting weights in gym for Movember challenge

Our rugby 1st XV squad members used a game-free Saturday to deliver a very powerful message.

The team recently took on a Movember 60 challenge that pitted the Backs vs the Forwards in a contest to lift the most reps of 60 kilos over 60 minutes.

But why 60? Because globally 60 men die every 60 minutes from suicide.

After discussing the subject, the importance of looking themselves and each other and the key role exercise can play in our physical and mental health, the pupils got down to the hard work across squats, deadlifts and bench presses.

Reaping the rewards of the PE Department’s Strength & Conditioning programme, both sides were relentless with the Backs coming out on top by a margin of only 70 reps.

Great effort everyone and a special thanks to Mr Aitken for devising and organising the event.
