Pupils Achieve Sum-thing Special in Maths Olympiad

Pupils at the High School of Dundee have achieved incredible success in this year’s Maths Olympiad and Pink Kangaroo!

The two competitions, which are run by the UKMT, are open to pupils who achieve a high mark in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge.

F4 pupils Nhat Nguyen, John Nicolle and Shan Scott all qualified for the Pink Kangaroo, which is open to the top 8,000 pupils in the country, with John going on to score a Merit.

Meanwhile Xin Le Chen (F3), Scott Xu (F4) and Haoqi Liu (F2) all qualified for the prestigious Olympiads in their respective age groups.

In this two-hour test of their problem-solving ability, Scott achieved a Merit in the Maclaurin Olympiad while Haoqi went one further with a Distinction in his Cayley Olympiad.

These fantastic mathematical feats rounded off a great overall performance by HSD pupils in the Intermediate Challenge, which resulted in 8 Gold awards, 14 Silvers and 28 Bronzes from the 90 Form 3 and Form 4 pupils who entered January’s competition.

Well done, everyone!
