We’re delighted to announce that the HSD community has raised an incredible £32.8k for charity in the 2023/24 session!
The amazing figure is the 3rd highest amount HSD has ever raised in a single year, and brings the total generated over the past 5 sessions to more than £81k!
The cash was raised through dress-down days, bake sales, sports events, and a huge range of other activities organised by Nursery, Junior and Senior Years pupils and staff throughout the year.
The charity money raised by HSD during the 2023/24 session will go towards a number of amazing causes, including Alzheimer’s Scotland, Togs, Hillcrest Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, Educate the Kids, Perth First Responders, Poppy Scotland, the Archie Foundation, Be More Ruby, Breast Cancer Now, Dundee Disabled Children’s Association, and many, many more.
In addition to raising funds, our pupils also volunteered more than 10,000 hours across a range of placements in the local community and collected 756kg of food and other essentials for Dundee Foodbank. In addition, over 100 pieces of sports equipment were donated to Tayside and Strathearn Help for Ukraine’s summer camps, and almost 300 Christmas gifts were given to the Help for Kids Christmas appeal.
Karlene Douglas, the school’s Charities and Community Outreach Co-ordinator, said:
“It’s been brilliant to have our Nursery, Junior and Senior Years pupils working together to raise such an amazing total. An enormous thank you is due to the School’s (Senior Years) Interact group, the Enterprise team and the (Junior Years) Rotakids, who have worked extremely hard taking a lead with the charitable work that goes on at the School.
“To see the pupils learning about social justice and how to champion change through the charities and community outreach work is always so rewarding.
“A massive thank you to everyone – pupils, staff, parents, friends and others – who has contributed to the total raised and played a part in the Charities and Community Outreach programme this year.”
