HSD hosts Scottish Schools CCF Pipes and Drums Competition

On Sunday 8th June we were thrilled to host the 2025 Scottish Schools CCF Pipes and Drums Competition.

Families and friends of participants from HSD and eight other schools from across Scotland joined us at Mayfield for an amazing day of traditional Scottish music and dancing.

With the silvery Tay as the backdrop, the young performers gave us a wonderful showcase of their talent as they took part in solo piping and drumming contests, two pipe band competitions and – in the Sports Centre – a Highland Dancing contest.

The dedicated judges carefully assessed each performance to determine the outcome of the various contests, with members of the HSD CCF facilitating the seamless flow of participants around the venue and to the performance spots.

The event was rounded off in spectacular fashion with a massed bands performance before the prize-giving ceremony.

Rector Lise Hudson said, “It was fantastic to be able to welcome so many talented young performers to Mayfield for this wonderful occasion.

“I was immensely proud of the whole school community and in particular all colleagues and pupils who made an event of this scale and quality possible.

“It’s always a privilege to watch our own pipers and drummers perform, and they again did not only the school proud, but also their families and friends who turned out in great numbers to lend their support.

“Thank you to all of the performers for a wonderful showcase of their talent and to all of the schools and supporters who joined us on the day.”
