F2 Pupil Awarded Gold Medal After Achieving Best Maths Score In Scotland

Congratulations to HSD pupil Haoqi who has been awarded a gold medal by the UK Mathematics Trust after achieving the best score in Scotland in a prestigious maths competition!

In January, Haoqi (F2) took part in the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge, a UK-wide contest primarily for S3 and S4 pupils. Despite being one of the youngest contestants, he answered 24 out of 25 questions correctly, earning himself the highest mark in the entire school.

His performance was so outstanding that he was invited to sit the Cayley Maths Olympiad, a separate competition for S2 pupils who took part in the Intermediate Challenge. In this event, Haoqi achieved the best score in Scotland and ranked in the top 20 for the whole of the UK!

The HSD pupil has now been awarded a gold medal and a book on Euclidean geometry for his spectacular maths skills.

Well done, Haoqi! We can’t wait to see how you get on in the next Olympiad!
