From a divided city to a symbol of unity, Berlin’s rich and complex history offers powerful lessons about resilience, conflict, and change.
Our F4 and F5 pupils have just returned from an unforgettable journey through the heart of German history — and what an experience it was!
Highlights of the trip included:
Exploring the Reichstag and learning about democracy in modern Germany;
Reflecting at the Brandenburg Gate — once a Cold War divide, now a symbol of peace;
A deeply moving visit to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, remembering those who suffered under Nazi rule;
Stepping into Prussian grandeur at Potsdam;
Towering views from the iconic TV Tower.;
Immersion in life behind the Iron Curtain at the DDR Museum;
Walking along the reality of divided Berlin at Bernauer Strasse Wall Museum, where stories of division and daring escape came to life.
Head of History and Modern Studies, Gordon Fyall, said “The Berlin trip gave our pupils the chance to engage directly with the places and events they’ve studied in class — from standing beneath the Brandenburg Gate to reflecting at Sachsenhausen.
“Their curiosity, respect, and insight throughout the trip made it a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.”
