Aspiring Investors Get Ready For UK Competition

Aspiring investors at HSD are hoping to see their stock rise in the UK-wide Growing Future Assets Competition.

A group of F6 girls recently visited Dundee University for the kick-off event of the contest, which seeks to nurture the next generation of female investment experts by introducing girls to investment, its operation, relevance and impact, and the range of careers available.

The annual competition challenges teams of girls to research, analyse and pitch a company they think is a great long-term investment, and this year the School will have two F6 teams and an F3 group taking part.

To give some real-life advice and to create links with the investment industry, participating teams are given an industry mentor who will help them as they take on the tasks of writing an investment report and producing an elevator pitch.

At the kick-off event, the attendees heard talks from industry experts from Brewin Dolphin and Blackadders about key areas to consider when providing investment advice. They also took part in activities focusing on the risk associated with different forms of investment and about how different investors have differing and varied needs. Finally, the girls had the chance to practise their pitching by delivering a persuasive talk on a randomly chosen product.

The Growing Future Assets Competition gets underway on September 18th – good luck HSD girls!
