Relocating to Dundee

A warm welcome for families joining us from further afield.

Whether you are returning to Dundee, relocating for work, or moving to Scotland from overseas, choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions for your family. At the High School of Dundee, we regularly welcome pupils who are new to the city and we understand that moving schools can feel like a big step for both children and parents.

From the moment you get in touch, our aim is simple – to make your transition as smooth as possible. With outstanding pastoral care, smaller class sizes and a welcoming school community, new pupils quickly feel settled, supported and ready to thrive.

Helping Your Child Settle In

Starting a new school is an exciting moment, though it can sometimes feel a little daunting for children and parents alike. That is why we place great emphasis on ensuring every new pupil feels confident and comfortable from day one. Our experienced pastoral teams work closely with families to make the transition smooth and enjoyable.
Support for new pupils may include:
  • Taster visits, allowing children to experience a normal school day before joining
  • A buddy system, where a current pupil helps them settle into school life
  • Dedicated pastoral care, ensuring pupils feel supported both academically and socially
  • Smaller class sizes, allowing teachers to quickly get to know each pupil as an individual

A School Community That Welcomes Everyone

One of the things families often notice immediately about The High School of Dundee is the strong sense of community. Our pupils come from across Dundee, Angus, Perthshire and Fife, and each year we welcome families who are joining the city from elsewhere in the UK and around the world.
New pupils quickly become part of the life of the school through:
  • A wide range of clubs, sports and co-curricular activities
  • A friendly and supportive peer community
  • Regular opportunities to participate in school events, performances and competitions
It is this sense of belonging that helps pupils settle quickly and grow in confidence.

Academic Continuity and Confidence

When moving schools, parents naturally want to know that their child’s learning will continue smoothly. Our teachers are experienced in supporting pupils joining from a variety of educational backgrounds and curricula.
With small class sizes and close relationships between staff and pupils, we are able to:
  • Understand each child’s strengths and interests quickly
  • Provide support where needed
  • Ensure pupils continue to make excellent academic progress
Our goal is always the same – to help every pupil achieve their potential and become confident, capable young people who are ready for the future.
