Exam results

Pupils at the High School of Dundee consistently score well above national averages in SQA examination and the School has featured in the top ten list of Scottish schools by results for a number of years. 

In 2016, our Higher results were the best in Dundee, Angus, Fife and Perthshire. Our pupils also recorded the top marks in Scotland in six subjects and scored 100% not once, but five times. One pupil achieved a unique scientific double by scoring the best marks in the land in both Higher Biology and Higher Chemistry, while another achieved the top mark in Advanced Higher Modern Studies.

In 2015, our Higher results were again the best in Dundee, Angus and Fife and in 2014, as well as recording the best Higher results north of the Forth, High School pupils scored the top marks in Scotland in Advanced Higher Biology and Advanced Higher Technological Studies. In 2013 our pupils scored the top marks in Higher Biology and in Higher Classical Studies.

2016 results

In 2016, 5th Year pupils achieved a Higher pass rate of 96%, the best ever in the School's history and, as with previous years, one of the highest in the country. In addition, 63% of those passes were A grades, another record for the School. 

63% of the year group passed 5 or more Highers, with more than a quarter (27%) achieving 5 A grades at Higher, and well over half (55%) gaining at least 3 As. Overall, 5th Year candidates secured an average of nearly 4.5 Higher passes each.

Meanwhile, 6th Year pupils achieved a pass rate of 93% at Advanced Higher level, with 55% of those passes graded A. 81% of this year's cohort leave with at least one Advanced Higher to their name.

In this, the third year of results for the National 5 qualification, 4th Year pupils demonstrated their academic abilities by achieving a pass rate of 96%, with almost two thirds (65%) of all papers graded A.

Overall, 55 subjects were passed with scores of 95% or more at N5, Higher and Advanced Higher

2015 results

In 2015, F5 pupils achieved a Higher pass rate of 95%, with an impressive 54% of those passes graded A. 60% of the year group passed 5 Highers and almost a quarter of the year group (24%) achieved 5 A grades at Higher.

In terms of Advanced Highers, pupils in F6 achieved a pass rate of 91%, with nearly half (48%) at A grade and 83% at grade A or B.  Pupils in 6th Year also achieved a pass rate of 91% in Highers, with a record-breaking 48% at grade A.

At National 5 level, more than ¾ of all papers were graded A (76.5%), and the overall pass rate was 96%, compared to the national pass rate of 80%. 37% of the cohort secured at least 8 A grades.
