Physical Education

Sport plays a vital role in the life of the High School.  All of our pupils undertake regular PE lessons, and from L4 upwards will attend an additional session of Field each week.  Within the department we aim to encourage each pupil to achieve success, have enjoyment and reach their full potential. We are ideally placed to deliver the main themes of Curriculum for Excellence, and we actively promote the principles of well-being, respect, and high quality leadership, while developing a culture of ambition and achievement.

Co-curricular activities are very important to us and we run a full programme of sporting activities which our pupils can participate in.

In addition to timetabled sport within class time, a wide range of activities take place after school and at weekends, including regular scheduled matches in a variety of sports.  All pupils are encouraged to participate in activities, and to try a wide variety of sports during their time at the High School.  Between August and April, we often have almost a third of the school population involved in Saturday morning sport. Our main sports at this time of year are rugby and hockey. During the summer term we play cricket and tennis. We also have a very successful athletics squad which competes in the Dundee Schools Athletics Championships.

The department has a very successful record in SQA examinations. We present pupils at both Higher and Intermediate II levels.
