Creativity is at the heart of great education. The ability to think analytically, critically, but also creatively is a crucial component of what we do in school.

In fact, not just to think, but also do, make, act. Through sound, image, and physical representation. This changes lives. At the High School we are now embarked on a thrilling new project designed to do just that, through a state-of-the-art centre of excellence for performing and visual arts, in one of the most prominent buildings of the city: the former Head Post Office on Meadowside.

"The development of the former Post Office will be of similar significance and will benefit the education of thousands of pupils, not to mention the wider community, for generations to come. We hope that all constituencies within the global High School community will rally round and support this aspirational and transformative project."

Dr John Halliday

Situated at the very heart of the new building is our principal interdisciplinary performance space, a state-of-the-art multi-purpose theatre, concert hall and auditorium which will provide pupils of the future, and the wider community with a wonderful space for learning and performing. Comfortable tiered seating will provide the ideal vantage point from which to view performances situated on our custom-designed raised stage. Aspiring to include a manual pipe organ, a Steinway model D piano, and extensive backstage facilities, the auditorium will be an outstanding educational and recreational space, intended to empower and inspire generations to come. In addition, there will also be a superb Chamber Music Hall and two drama and dance studios, along with smaller studio performance environments throughout the building for workshops, masterclasses, rehearsals, and tutorials.

A new social and culinary hub, the Refectory, will welcome all members of our community during the school day and beyond. It will offer a wide range of on-site dining facilities, providing healthy and nutritious fresh food to all. Featuring multiple social spaces, it will be designed to enable collaboration and interaction, 'feeding' creativity. As well as catering for our pupils throughout the school year, the Refectory will host formal dinners, receptions, and exhibitions. A cutting-edge teaching kitchen will be a further feature of the Refectory space, providing a matchless resource for our Health and Food Technology pupils, and offering an exciting new venue for community leading initiatives and celebrity cooking demonstrations.
