Pupils at the High School of Dundee were treated to a fantastic piste of inspiration when a Winter Olympic skier made a return visit.

The School was delighted to welcome back former pupil Charlie Guest recently to share some sporting advice and wisdom with current pupils and talk to them about her experiences in top level alpine skiing, including her Winter Olympics debut earlier this year.

Speaking about the PyeongChang Games, the four-time British Ladies Slalom champion revealed that competing had been “surreal and emotional” as a result of the pride she’d felt in being part of the “Olympic bubble”. She also shared with the youngsters the inspiring story of her comeback from four broken vertebrae, which she sustained in a 2014 training crash, emphasising the importance of mental as well as physical recovery.

Charlie said, “It was fantastic to be back at my old school and great to meet the pupils.

“My advice to them was that if you truly love something, like a sport, keep at it and give it 100% effort, as I’ve found hard work brings the best results. A lot of these pupils will undoubtedly have talent, and that combined with determination could get them very far.”
