Win demonstrates Piobaireachd is Liam’s fourte

A talented High School of Dundee piper is celebrating a win that proves that Piobaireachd playing is well and truly his fourte!

Liam Brown has been enjoying piping success

Liam Brown, F4, has just been crowned the winner of the Junior Grampian League for solo piping playing Piobaireachd for the fourth year in a row.

Liam sealed joint first place in the regional competition, which is a league for pipers playing in any Grampian based solo competition during the Highland Games season, with a win in the U18 contest at the Braemar Gathering.

Proving he’s a piper of many talents, Liam also claimed the runner-up prize in the league for Light Music, a competition which he’d won in each of the previous three years.

Liam usually competes in at least ten Highland Games each year and his achievements are all the more impressive given that he was forced to miss a number in 2019 owing to athletics commitments. His dual focus paid off in fine fashion though as he also turned in a Gold-medal-winning performance in U17 javelin at the Scottish Schools Athletics Championships at Grangemouth in June.

Liam said, “My piping highlight was winning the U18 piobaireachd at Braemar Gathering against some tough competition.

“It’s been a good sporting and piping year!”
