Top brass performance by HSD musicians

High School of Dundee musicians have turned in a top brass performance at a national competition.

High School of Dundee pupils won silver at the Scottish Brass Band Championships

A 22-strong group of HSD pupils were rewarded for their inspired efforts at the Scottish Brass Band Championships at Perth Concert Hall with the prize for silver place in the novice category.

In what was the School’s debut appearance at the annual contest, the collection of HSD brass players and percussionists hit all the right notes with the judges as they competed against 14 other bands.

Featuring ‘Afterburn’, ‘Ticket to Ride’, ‘African Funk’, and a set test piece, ‘Tartanheart’, the group’s 15 minute programme drew praise from the panel, with one adjudicator complimenting the “great energy, great ensemble work and good musicianship”.
