Sporting achievements recognised

On Wednesday, Instagram was abuzz with anticipation as the nominees and winners for the various prizes up for grabs at the School’s annual Sports Awards were revealed and announced on the PE department’s page.

Tries, goals and points scored, along with a host of other success stories from a range of sports over the last 12 months, were to the fore as the online event unfolded and the titles – including the coveted Sports Personality of the Year award - were (virtually) handed out.

Pupils tuning in to the event were also treated to some sporting words of wisdom and encouragement from former pupils Zander Fagerson (Scottish rugby internationalist), Charlie Guest (Winter Olympic skier), Cameron Golden (Scottish hockey internationalist) and Shona Campbell (Scottish Touch Rugby internationalist), who had all contributed video messages.

Organiser, PE teacher Christy O’Donnell, said, “Our Annual Sports Awards allow us to commend the fine sportsmen, sportswomen and sports teams, in Form 4 to Form 6, who have shown an outstanding work ethic and put in extraordinary efforts to achieve success. 

“I think this has been the toughest and most competitive year we've had to date. This shows what outstanding and talented pupils we have.

“Moving the event online this year made it a bit different, but it meant we could still celebrate the achievements of our individuals and teams, which is the most important thing."
