Having made an impression on football coaches during squad trials in Stirling and Edinburgh, F3 pupil Alix Saddler has been selected to play football for Scotland in the SISFA U16 girls squad.

Alix’s selection comes after strong performances for her club Forfar Farmington F.C, as well as a promising run in the previous SISFA U16’s campaign.

The defender recently travelled with the SISFA squad down to St George’s Park, the £105m facility home to the England football teams. Here the Scots played against a strong England team, who had held off the SISFA U16’s team since 2014. The Scotland team put in an impressive performance, matching the English side for most of the game. With a resilient defence, the Scots prevented England’s build-up play from materialising into opportunities in the final third. Unfortunately, two late goals courtesy of a set-piece and a great finish secured the win for England.

Alix said: “I’m really proud that I had managed to get the chance to play for Scotland for my second year running. I felt honoured and would love to be selected again to play for my country and try and get a win against England this year”.
