The High School of Dundee was delighted to be able to give a very warm welcome back to a famous former pupil!

School welcomes back FP KT Tunstall

The School was thrilled when singer-songwriter and musician KT Tunstall paid a visit to treat some pupils to a memorable musical performance.

Accompanied by her band, KT entertained enthusiastic pupils in P5 with renditions of her hits Suddenly I See and Black Horse & the Cherry Tree, and Fairground Attraction’s Perfect, which she’d performed as a busker in Dundee in her youth.

And with audience participation actively encouraged by the Brit Award winner, she had a whole host of eager new backing vocalists on hand to raise the noise level!

KT - who attend the School in S3, S4 and S5 - also made time to visit the music department, and to answer some questions from senior pupils about her musical career, before sharing one of her other passions – cookery – with a group of pupils in the Health & Food Technology Department.

And, of course, there were one or two requests for hellos, autographs and selfies along the way, which KT was only too happy to provide!

KT said, “It’s lovely to be back.

“I’ve got really good memories of the School, especially the music department.

“I was really encouraged to be creative and I just remember being supported in a really individual way when I was here. It’s lovely to see that the kids are still being encouraged and supported to express themselves creatively.”

The visit was part of a special Lidl Live tour, which has seen KT perform at a mixture of stores, local schools and the firm's suppliers across Scotland.  Through ticket sales for a series of additional evening gigs, the tour has so far raised more than £25k for STV's Children's Appeal to help children and young people living in poverty.
