In their computing lessons, pupils in F3 have recently been using the BBC Micro:bit to develop step counters.

After coding the device, the pupils conducted testing which revealed some flaws in the code.

However, after some reworking, a solution was found, enabling the pupils to take to the playground to work through accuracy tests over greater distances. And with 100 steps the minimum amount required to validate the testing, the youngsters were able to put the device through its paces in activities including jogging, climbing stairs and walking backwards.

The pupils will now embark on the final step in the process – analysing the data they have collected to ascertain the best (most accurate) position on the body to place the device.
