Pupils enjoy Manchester derby

There was plenty of debate following the recent Manchester derby: were City exceptional, or were United just not very good?! One thing for certain though is that a large team of HSD pupils had a great time attending the match!

HSD pupils attended the Manchester derby

A group of 97 pupils from F1-F6, and eight staff, travelled south to take in the famous fixture, at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Following an early rise on Sunday, the group paid a visit to Old Trafford for a fantastic tour of the stadium.

Following that, they were treated to a talk by Manchester United’s Chief Financial Officer and HSD FP, Cliff Baty, who gave the pupils a fascinating insight into the sheer numbers involved in managing finances at this level of football. He also gave the group the chance to take part in a quiz, with prizes at stake!

Then it was off to the match, with time before kick-off to visit the club shop, enjoy lunch, take in the various activities on offer outside the ground, and revel in the derby-day atmosphere!

As the whistle approached, the group took their seats, enjoying a great view of the action as the hosts ran out 4-1 winners.

Trip organiser, Head of Technologies, Scott McBride, said, “The match was high quality as you would expect. The atmosphere was electric throughout and the pupils loved every minute of it.

“The tour of Old Trafford was also excellent. Cliff Baty was fantastic and it was really interesting to hear about his role and some of the details of finances at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“We faced a long journey back on the bus, but the talk quickly turned to when and where the next football trip would be!”
