The Sunday Hillwalking Club aims to give pupils who are keen to take on an uphill challenge the chance to ascend some of the country’s finest peaks.

Led by Maths teacher Dr Stephen Ferguson, the group will aim to climb a different hill each month within a 90-minute radius of Dundee, and any pupil in F1-F6 is welcome to take part.

The Club has already enjoyed expeditions to Glen Doll and Glen She, taking on the summits of four Munros – Mayar, Dreish, Carn an Turc and Cairn of Claise – in the process.

An experienced hiker, Dr Fergusson holds the Mountain Leader qualification and is an enthusiastic advocate for pupils getting out and enjoying the country’s natural landscape.

He said, “I love the outdoors. I love the way it focusses you in the moment, in putting one foot in front of the other and taking in what you are seeing and feeling.

“I can’t wait to see our pupils getting out there and conquering summits!”
