Pupil named 'Dundee's Champion'!

Congratulations to High School of Dundee pupil Lauren Chesters on a truly champion fundraising effort!

Pupil named 'Dundee's Champion'!

Over the summer, the L3 pupil raised more than £1000 for the charity Dundee Bairns by selling  t-shirts featuring colourful artwork which she had created during lockdown.

After her efforts caught the attention of the Evening Telegraph, she was nominated for the Young Person Champion category in the newspaper’s Dundee’s Champion Awards. And when the online awards ceremony, hosted by FP Martel Maxwell, took place last month, Lauren was announced as the winner!

The Awards aim to recognise and reward the people in our communities who are doing their bit to help others in Dundee and having received her trophy, Lauren brought it into school this week for her classmates to see.

Lauren’s fundraising efforts began when she was given the task of completing a Van Gogh-inspired piece of art during an online lesson at the start of lockdown. After being able to sell her Starry Night-themed painting for a donation of £50 to Dundee Bairns, the youngster decided to create more artwork. With the help of her dad, she was then able to put the images on to t-shirts which she sold for the charity.

Well done Lauren!
