HSD Pipe Band crowned European Champions

The Band won the Novice B section at the European Pipe Band Championships at Bught Park, Inverness, overcoming 14 other groups to lift the title, with the School’s Pipe Band Drum Corps separately being named champions in that category!

This means that the Pipe Band have achieved the hugely impressive feat of being concurrently both British and European champions!

And the European victory follows hot on the heels of another fantastic performance by the Band at the Benarty Pipe Band Competition (one of the main contests of the Dundee, Perth and Angus branch of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association).

At the event at Lochore Meadows Country Park, the HSD Competition Band won the Novice B contest; came 2nd in their debut competition entry at Novice A level; and secured 5th place in the Open March, Strathspey and Reel competition, in which they were up against Grade 3 and Grade 4 adult bands.

Director of Music, Lionel Steuart Fothringham, said, “I am immensely proud of this achievement by our Pipe Band.

“Mr Wilton and Mr Graham have worked together over five years to bring the pupils up to this exalted standard, and the pupils have responded with enthusiasm and expertise. Congratulations to them all!”

Enormous congratulations to all of the pupils and staff involved!
