Sarah McKenzie earned herself multiple individual and team gold medals after embarking on an impressive run of form spanning a series of major events.
The F6 pupil’s exploits began at the Women's Artistic Adrian Stan Team Championships in Guildford where she overcame around 60 other gymnasts to win individual Gold in the Senior AA (All Around) non-GB squad contest.
At the same event she also helped the City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club - where she trains five times a week - become the first Scottish team to win Gold (the non-GB squad title) at a British team event.
Sarah followed that up with more success at the Sandra Clarke Invitational in Nottingham, where she scooped the individual Senior AA Gold medal, as well as finishing in 1st place on Vault and 3rd place on Beam. Mirroring her success in Guildford, she also played a key role in a strong team performance, helping the six-strong Scotland squad take 2nd place in the international contest which featured France, England, two regional teams and two other top British teams.
And Sarah completed a hat-trick of individual gold medal-winning performances by taking 1st place in the AA overall section - as well as 1st on Bars, 2nd on Beam and Floor and 3rd on Vault - at the Scottish Gymnastics Gordon Forster Team Competition. At the Perth event, she also played her part as the City of Glasgow Club won the overall title for the second year in a row.
Sarah, who is a member of the Scottish Gymnastics National Performance Programme, said, “I was really happy coming in first place in the last three competitions. It shows that hard work really does pay off!
“It has also given me a great confidence boost after injury ruled me out of selection for Commonwealth Games 2018. My aim now is to upgrade my skills in time for the Scottish Championships in February and the British Championships in March which are the highlights in the gymnastics calendar.”
