The North East/South East Scotland regional heat of the competition took place today, with our two HSD teams competing against pupils from 18 other schools across the region (including some big Edinburgh names!) to secure a space in the National Final.

The HSD pupils answered a host of challenging questions aimed at keen readers. The questions covered a range of genres and touched on topics from book titles and characters to authors and brain teasers.

Team B finished in joint 3rd place with 57 points (only 1 point off 2nd place!), while Team A skilfully defended the school’s title of North East and South East Scotland Champions with a massive 67 points!

English teacher David Finlay said, “It was a fantastic performance and a wonderful surprise since, as was the case last year, the quiz was extremely difficult, and we thought a win was not on the cards. In fact, they won by 10 points!”

This success in the regional heat means prizes for both teams and an opportunity to win the National Final at the end of May.

The quiz is hosted by the National Literary Trust and aims to inspire young readers to read widely and wisely by delving into many different genres of book.

Well done, Team HSD, and good luck in the final!
