Equipped with only sleeping bags, foam mats and survival bags for protection, the group members slept under the stars at Mayfield on Saturday November 10th, braving the rain and the cold in order to raise awareness of homelessness and £5,600 for Social Bite's campaign to eradicate it.

The money which the pupils and staff have raised will go towards the charity's major Housing First initiative, which seeks to take 800 rough sleepers off the streets of Scotland by 2020.

Karlene Douglas, Charities and Community Outreach Co-ordinator at the High School, said, “Our initial target was £3,000, so to have raised over £5,000 is fantastic!

"Taking part enabled the pupils and staff to reflect on the challenges faced by homeless people every night and it was very rewarding to be able to raise awareness of homelessness and funds to help tackle the problem."
