Experiences galore during HSD Activities Week!

Over the course of three days, the special event aimed to enhance the all-round development of pupils in the yeargroups by providing a series of wide-ranging experiences linked to aspects of the School’s Core Values.

As a result, the pupils had the chance to develop their Creativity by taking part in a day of dance, drama, music and creative art activities at Mayfield, all themed around the idea of "Bollywood".

With a nod to Innovation and Technology, they also embarked on a Biomimicry challenge, working in competitive teams in the school Science labs to produce innovative, nature-inspired solutions to everyday human problems.

The youngsters also had the chance to develop their Resilience by taking part in beach games at Broughty Ferry and orienteering in the Sidlaws.

Meanwhile, Kindness was the motivation as the pupils undertook litter picks in the local community, with HSD pupils also joining forces with children from St Peter and St Paul’s RC Primary School and St Joseph’s Primary School, for further picks.

And Diversity, Inclusion and Community were the themes which inspired a Walking tour of Dundee, which included Faith groups and places of worship, local museums, and local companies, including DC Thomson.

And with house points up for grabs in the course of the various challenges, there was a healthy dose of team-building going on too!

Deputy Head (Logistics) Senior Years, David Brett, said, “It was great to see pupils and staff alike trying something different, building new relationships in the community and actively demonstrating the School’s values. We are already exploring the possibilities for next session.”
