Duo in running for national writing award

Congratulations to a pair of HSD writers who are celebrating their very own competition success story!

Duo in running for national writing award

Neil Bhat and Alexander Milnes have been long-listed for the Scottish Schools’ Young Writer of the Year Award, an annual contest open to all 15 to 18-year-old pupils in Scotland.

The competition is organised by the Scottish Review and challenges entrants to write a non-fiction piece on a contemporary issue for a serious magazine or newspaper.

Neil impressed the judging panel with his passionate support for taking a fresh approach to primary education, while Alexander earned his spot on the long-list with his fascinating examination of the possibly overlooked importance of stone walls.

Head of English Mandy Tevendale said, “We are so very proud of our young writers.”

Neil and Alexander don’t have long to wait to find out the final results - they will be announced in a special edition of the Scottish Review – www.scottishreview.net - tomorrow (Tuesday 21 March)!
