Debaters win national competition

The duo of Ruby McIntee and Aoife Stewart emerged victorious from the St Andrews University Schools Debating Competition, an event which featured more than 20 other pairings from schools from across Scotland.

After putting forward a series of convincing arguments in the three preliminary debates, Ruby and Aoife – who was taking part in her first debating contest - qualified for the final, where, after an anxious wait for the judges’ deliberations, they were ultimately declared the champions!

And there was success for the School’s other pairing of Finlay Thomas and Scott Xu too, with Finlay winning a prize for improvising a convincing argument in the floor debate that followed the final.
