Success for High School pipers

Pipers from the High School of Dundee acquitted themselves well at the Scottish CCF Pipes and Drums Committee’s annual Trios and Quartets CompetitionHigh School of Dundee pipers have been enjoying success at both local and national level.

Kicking things off, a ten-strong High School contingent travelled through to Fettes College in Edinburgh to compete against groups from all the other main independent schools in the 2017 Scottish CCF Pipes and Drums Committee’s annual Trios and Quartets Competition.

Rising to the challenge, the team of Craig Gunn, Tom Dalglish and Ross Mauritzen earned themselves 3rd place in the Trios section, and with it a shield for their efforts.

Meanwhile, at the RSPBA (Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association) Dundee, Perth and Angus branch Solo Piping and Drumming Competition, High School pupils also turned in a number of impressive performances.

At the event at Craigie High School, representing the High School of Dundee Pipe Band, Angus Macfarlane took 2nd place in Chanter and Alan Cunningham was 3rd in Novice Piping, while teacher David Wilton, the School’s Pipe Major, won the Over-18 March, Strathspey and Reel, as well as the Over-18 Jig.

 

Representing the City of St Andrews Pipe Band, High School pupil Ruaraidh Watson took 3rd place in 13-and-under Solo Drumming.
