Co-curricular activities

Boys in the waterFor pupils in the senior school, co-curricular activities are not just a vital part of the development process; they add depth and value to every pupil’s CV, and stand each individual in good stead as they progress to university and beyond.

We expect all pupils to participate in the life of the school by choosing to get involved with the activities on offer.  In some activities - for example, for pupils who choose to take individual music lessons – compulsory attendance may be required.

Some of the most popular activities within the School include the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, which is led by a dedicated outdoor specialist; the Combined Cadet Force, which runs regular training exercises, camps and a pipe band; and participation in co-curricular sports clubs and teams.

The High School also enjoys a very strong musical tradition.  More than 500 individual music lessons take place every week, and pupils learning to play an instrument may choose from almost twenty different choirs, orchestras and ensembles to participate in.

Other regular activities on offer in the Senior School include clubs for Drama, Climbing, Kayaking, Chess, the pupil-led newspaper Co-Curricular News, Debating, Environment, Hospitality, Jewellery-making, Fashion, Hat Design, the Justice Society, Quest (the Scripture Union), the Reading Café, Technology, Warhammer, Young Enterprise, Young Speakers, the Investment Club, and the Form 6 Yearbook, among many others.  Pupils may also support charities through the School’s Charities Committee or the Interact Club, and support other activities within the School, such as the Breakfast Club or the Recycling scheme, through the High Helpers organisation.

Co-curricular sports activities that are operated or supported by the School include athletics, cricket, curling, equestrianism, Flag football, boys’ and girls’ football, golf, hockey, netball, rugby, running, skiing, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.

Where available, more detailed profiles for some activities can be accessed through the menu on the left.  Additional profiles will be added in due course.
