Library

IMG 7081The school library is located in the ground floor of the Trinity building.  At present it houses over 16,000 resources, ranging from picture books to Advanced Higher texts and includes DVD’s, magazines and a regularly updated Careers Library.  It also has an ICT suite with 18 fully networked computers.  The library is staffed by a Chartered Librarian, Miss Owens and a full time library assistant and is open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday-Thursday and 8.30am – 4.30pm on Friday.  It is well used by senior school pupils before and after school as well as during morning interval and lunchtime

Author visits, writing competitions and engaging displays provide a focus to promote reading for pleasure amongst all our pupils.  Pupils are allowed to borrow both fiction and non-fiction from the library.  Both junior and senior fiction stock is kept up-to-date and includes all the well known authors along with some newly published authors. The library staff are always willing to assist pupils with choosing a suitable ‘good book’.

Junior school classes are timetabled to visit the library on a weekly basis where the librarian delivers information skills lessons, reader development activities and assists pupils with choosing books.  Senior school classes come to the library with a range of subject teachers and the librarian provides research skills guidance and advice which supports independent research and the work done in class.

The Reading Café is the library co-curricular club which is open to all F1-F2 pupils and runs throughout the year.  Pupils who attend the Reading Café enjoy a variety of book-related activities including quizzes, crafts and helping with library displays.  They also have first choice on new books in the library and the time to add reviews to the online catalogue.
