In late November, the school were pleased to welcome Mr Tim Baker and Mr David Reid, Rotarians, as judges when 10 pupils took part in the preliminary heat of the Rotary Chef competition. The standard was excellent but only five pupils could go through to the school heat from which two pupils will go forward to the local schools’ final in January.
The five contenders created an outstanding array of dishes and the judges were suitably impressed by the high standard. The two successful pupils going through to the next round are:
Mhairi Millar (Form 1) who cooked a main course of pan fried fillet of pork, with a prune and apple sauce, mashed potato and green beans and for dessert, a lemon curd soufflé with raspberry coulis.
The other winner was Megan Ross (Form 2) who cooked smoked salmon pate with homemade granary rolls, followed by chicken pie with her own shortcrust pastry, honey roast butternut squash and Brussels sprouts with pancetta.
