Hockey Coach Vikki Moves Closer to her Olympic Dream

High School Hockey Coach, Vikki Bunce, Scotland’s current Player of the Year will get ever closer to realising her Olympic dream when she joins up with her GB team mates this week.

There was no disguising the enthusiasm and delight of the inspirational midfielder from VWS Dundee Wanderers when she received the good news from head coach Danny Kerry, “I’m really looking forward to the trip to San Diego.  Each selection is potentially a step closer to the Olympics, another chance to be seen and I’m hoping to grasp this opportunity with both hands”.

“We have an excellent time together as a squad under a different style of coaching, the training is very specific and I feel I`ve learned a lot of new things, it`s very refreshing. There are nine months still to go to London and anything can happen, but all the support is there on site and it is very individualised” she continued.

The two week trip to California will see Great Britain undertake warm weather training as well as playing a five match series against hosts, and fellow Olympic Games qualifiers, USA with the first of the five encounters taking place on Sunday 11 December

Vikki continues to play for Dundee Wanderers and three weeks out of four she commutes from Dundee to London with the added bonus of spending time with her family, particularly 3 year old Oscar.

The next rung on the Olympic ladder comes when head coach Kerry announces his 18-strong squad to compete in the prestigious Champions Trophy, which takes place in Argentina at the end of January.

Congratulations Vikki and Good Luck with the tour!
