Sixteen members of the High School of Dundee staff and one senior pupil, Niall Moorjani, joined people around the world as they raised money and awareness for Movember, the male healthcare charity. The participants, or Mo Bros, as they are known, pledged to spread the word about men’s healthcare issues and grow the most outlandish moustache possible, during the month of November. All pupils, staff and the wider community have been very generous in pledging and donating money to this excellent cause, raising £ 2500 to date. However, to boost funds even more, pupils from Form 6 donated £2 each to be allowed to wear an imitation moustache in support of the Mo Bros on the final day of the challenge, 30th November.
The Movember event which began in Melbourne, Australia, in 2004 has since spread across the world from countries such as Spain to as far afield as America. The Bros are supported by their Mo Sistas whose job it is recruit the men and supply them with the correct information and support. The events purpose is to spread the word about men's health and to help men to seek medical advice in areas such as prostate cancer so men can be diagnosed quicker and receive earlier treatment. Movember raises funds worldwide and in the UK alone in 2010, 112,000 participants raised over £11.7 million.
