CREST award for budding scientists

Fifteen pupils at the High School of Dundee have achieved a silver CREST award after successfully completing a project with the University of St Andrews. The project, run in conjunction with the University’s Geology department, saw each pupil spend forty hours researching and presenting on aspects of mineralogy in order to earn their award. CREST, or Creativity in Science and Technology Awards is a nationally recognized accreditation scheme for project work in maths, science and technology.

The pupils involved were all in Forms 4 and 5 while carrying out their work.  Ross Mulford, Cameron Richardson and Joanna Tait studied Quartz, Alistair Bankhead, Khalil Okhai and Stewart Rodney studied Mica; James Lucocq, Jakob Kroboth and Ryan Kemlo all studied Olivine; Salim Branine, King Hang Chan and Elliot Killick studied Sulphide minerals, and Gail Watson, Lucy Abel and Elliot McKillop studied Oxide minerals.
